The Chiropractor Providing Health and Wellness for St. Petersburg
I knew I wanted to have a career doing something that involved using my hands. While growing up I was always interested in science so a job involving healthcare seemed a good fit. And so it began!
While attending the University of Maine at Orono, I narrowed my search of career choices to dentistry and chiropractic. The choice was actually made for me through speaking with many dentists and chiropractors. Most dentists I spoke with were unhappy with their profession and would not go into it again, while the Chiropractors were very positive and upbeat about their jobs. Made my decision pretty easy!
Through my research of schools to attend and from talking with other Chiropractors, Palmer College of Chiropractic was mentioned often and in a very positive way. I entered Palmer in the fall of 1977, I know that was a long time ago! It was an experience driving from my home in Maine, towing a trailer filled with all my "stuff" and not having a clue what to expect when I got there. It was interesting, to say the least, about first crossing the Mississippi River into Davenport, Iowa and seeing the sign for Palmer College with all of these students walking around with white clinic jackets. A little scary? Yup!
The fear was quickly replaced with interest at all the different people and their varying backgrounds. There were students from all parts of the globe. It was amazing to actually be in the midst of a real melting pot. I made friends with people from Europe, Australia and South Africa, to name a few areas. The different culture exchange was eye opening.
The courses I took were fantastic in their content and presentation. The instructors, for the most part, were very knowledgeable and really intent on teaching you what they knew. I was lucky in that since I really enjoyed the classes my grades were very good. I ended up graduating 4th in my class of over 120 student doctors. I know...patting myself on my own back!
I also made another one of the best decisions of my life in joining a fraternity called Delta Sigma Chi. It is strictly a Chiropractic fraternity and it helped me in a variety of ways to become an accomplished and confident Chiropractor. I would recommend this fraternity to anyone attending a Chiropractic school where one is located. I could tell you stories about the fraternal life, however on second thought no, some things are better left to the imagination.
As a Chiropractor, I Hope to Do Right by Others
In my practice I hope to do right by others. I want my patients to feel that by placing their care in my hands they have made a decision that will be a positive influence on their health. My staff and I strive to provide a comfortable, caring and understanding atmosphere towards everyone trusting us with their care. We try to treat each patient with the same high quality of care that they deserve and are looking for. I know we will do our best to treat their concerns with professionalism and to make educated decisions on their health care plans. I have always been one to accept that I may not know all the answers, but I will attempt to find the answers elsewhere if needed.
Enjoying A Healthy and Adventurous Lifestyle
Since I have no children of my own to spoil, the lucky recipient of all the attention falls on my other 'child'. She would be my golden retriever Maggie. Maggie is six years old. She is a very special friend of mine. C'mon in and you may get to meet her!
When I'm not spending time with Maggie, I've been known to do a few crazy things to pass the time. Among the nuttier attempts of having fun I have tried skydiving and bungee jumping. Of the two I like bungee jumping more. There's a real rush in those first few seconds when you're leaning forward knowing you can't turn back then gravity takes over! You just hope they weighed you right and that the cord is good quality which by the time you think about it, it's way too late!
I also love to scuba dive, travel, play racquetball and read fiction. I have a timeshare in Aruba and try to visit there at least once a year. It's a fantastic island! The people are great, the water is amazing, shopping and restaurants second to none or if you just want to relax--perfect! As you can tell, I love Aruba!
As a true believer in what I do, I should be getting my own adjustments more frequently. Where does the time go? Self adjusting just isn't the same. I've tried to improve my diet lately by cutting out all diet drinks. Yeah, I know, shouldn't have been drinking them anyway. Do you know what's in those things? I do! Let's talk about toxins! Anyway, I love to eat chicken, salads, a nice thick juicy rare steak and garlic mashed potatoes. Seafood? Nah...you can keep it. Never really developed a taste for it. Coming from Maine you'd think I'd be a big seafood fan, huh? More for you, I guess.
Some of you may wonder what I think about medications. Well, I understand that some may be necessary for your health, but I certainly don't think that all those ads on TV are being truthful. I'm not naïve enough to think that my profession can help every ailment out there so some types of meds are appropriate and useful in maintaining your health. I'll be more than happy to look into the ones you are taking to answer any questions you may have.
Ok... enough about me! I'd like to thank you for visiting our site. I look forward to meeting you in person and learning how we may be of service to you. Give our St. Petersburg office a call, or email us and let's arrange a time to explore your options.
